Fishing Community and Society
Project Nelayan
Our project, Project Nelayan, raises awareness on the environmental and social impacts of land reclamation on the fishing communities of Sungai Batu, Penang. Through our Instagram page @project_nelayan, we share stories gathered from visits, interviews, and collaborations with fishermen and local NGOs, highlighting their livelihoods, marine ecosystems, and cultural heritage. By combining research with accessible digital storytelling, the project aims to humanise environmental issues and spark public engagement. Our intended outcome is to foster empathy and awareness among a wider audience, emphasising the importance of protecting both the community’s way of life and the fragile coastal environment that sustains it.Project Nelayan

Project Water Remediation
Project Water Remediation
Team Ka
Years of illegal dumping have transformed a once-vibrant community pond (quarry) in Chiang Mai into a polluted site, with toxic sediments disrupting the ecosystem, foul odours, and environmental hazards eroding local community spirit. The project aims to improve water quality and inspire residents to take ownership of the quarry’s maintenance, restoring it as a communal gathering space. Key takeaways include understanding community needs and delivering feasible, sustainable solutions. Planned outcomes are to assess water quality, enhance it using bioremediation techniques, and catalyse sustainable, ground-up interest and commitment to ongoing quarry stewardship.Team Ka

Play-it-Forward
Play-it-Forward
The-Girl-Band
Our IEx project, Play-it-forward, tackles toy wastage and inequality by collecting, refurbishing and redistributing age-appropriate toys to low-income and single-parent families, while engaging seniors as refurbishment mentors. Our goal is to build a campus-community pipeline for circular reuse and support early childhood development with safe, quality toys. We would like hands-on practice in asset-based community development, learning soft skills involved in partnership building and impact evaluation. We hope to have sustained toy drives at Kent Vale and community sites and distribution events with feedback loops. We hope to produce a documented playbook and creative showcase at the end of this project run.The-Girl-Band

River Station: Bamboo That Shelters
River Station: Bamboo That Shelters
Team Bambuhay
The project addresses the lack of reliable rain shelter near a river between two communities in Sac-on, Cebu by co-designing and constructing an eco-friendly bamboo shelter that ensures road-user safety and fosters community interaction. It aims to enhance safety, strengthen community bonding, and support long-term sustainability through future community-driven initiatives. The intended outcome is a fully functioning shelter featuring educational content and serving as a venue for workshops, community gatherings and projects, and bamboo-related learning activities that promote environmental awareness and local empowerment.Team Bambuhay

Team Pagkakaisa
Our IEx project explored sustainable uses of bamboo through a partnership with Kawayan Collective, a social enterprise promoting bamboo for housing in the Philippines. Drawing on our bamboo bootcamp experience, we contributed to building furniture and collaborated with the Bata ng Calabnugan girls’ orphanage, creating bamboo couches and bookshelves. While engaging with Kawayan Collective, we identified the challenge of bamboo waste and proposed two solutions: using black soldier flies for organic feed and partnering with Singaporean start-up Mykilio to repurpose sawdust into sustainable materials. Through hands-on work and research, we deepened our understanding of bamboo’s social, environmental, and economic potential.Team Pagkakaisa

Re-imagining Sentosa’s Coastal Trail
Re-imagining Sentosa’s Coastal Trail
Stardew Valley
The project aims to promote deeper appreciation and understanding of Sentosa’s coastal ecosystems through an engaging, educational trail experience. It seeks to raise environmental awareness, encourage responsible interaction with nature, and foster community involvement in coastal conservation. By partnering with schools to co-develop trail design ideas and assist in hosting launch events, the project also nurtures youth creativity and stewardship. Interactive elements, such as QR codes with questions along the trail, serve as tools to make learning experiential and accessible. The intended outcome is a more informed, connected, and environmentally conscious community.Stardew Valley

Empowering Agritech and Circular Waste Management within a Garden-Hotel
Empowering Agritech and Circular Waste Management within a Garden-Hotel
Hoa Tech
Entering IEx, our vision was to explore the agricultural landscape of Vietnam and enhance the sustainability of urban farming through technological investments. Eventually, we scoped our project to the sustainability of a community garden within a hotel in Vietnam built by our project partner. We aim to create a circular system for fertilizing the plants and creating compost within a small business, as this could set an example for guests and businesses to adopt more sustainable farming methods. Our work would develop a waste management solution and simplify composting into a measurable methodology that a small business could efficiently implement.Hoa Tech

FoodFetchers
Our project aims to reduce food waste while educating the public on the importance of sustainability and how they can safely contribute to the cause. We partner with MoNo, a sustainability-focused social enterprise, to redistribute packaged food items that are near or past best-before dates. We aim to reduce food waste while educating the public about safe food consumption habits, including methods such as the “Look, Smell, Taste” test. Our project successfully piloted a pop-up store in NUSC’s Elm College Buttery. We are expanding our pop-up services beyond NUSC, currently to UTown, as our project ultimately intends to impact the broader NUS community.FoodFetchers

Plastic Pomelo Pookies
Our project aims to encourage villagers of Koh Trong, Cambodia, to adopt sustainable waste management practices. Specifically, we are working with a primary school on the island to implement art workshops where students will learn to upcycle plastic bottle caps into artwork. This initiative aims to pique these young children's interests in recycling, thereby increasing their motivation to recycle. Additionally, we are working with homestay owners to teach them how to upcycle pomelo peels into candy. Through this initiative, we hope to address the existing problem of villagers burning pomelo peels by providing an alternative for dealing with them.Plastic Pomelo Pookies

Waste Management: Community Empowerment and Involvement on Koh Trong Island
Bin There, Done That: Koh Trong
Our project aimed to strengthen waste management practices on Koh Trong Island by improving the efficiency of composting and recycling practices. In collaboration with local schools, we educated students on sustainable composting techniques and encouraged environmental responsibility through interactive, hands-on learning. By merging scientific principles with simple, accessible methods, we aim to transform food waste into useful resources that benefit the island’s farming community. Our project not only supports local agriculture and promotes a circular economy but also fosters lasting behavioural change. Ultimately, our project empowers the community with practical knowledge to manage waste sustainably and build long-term environmental resilience.Bin There, Done That: Koh Trong
