Our IEx project aims to better understand and bridge the digital divide in Singapore between the elderly and those in younger generations. Our core concern is senior citizens are being left out of an increasingly digitalised world which leaves them socially marginalized. The main goal of our IEx project was to create a safe and supportive learning space where seniors could explore digital tools at their own pace. Through these sessions, we hoped to reduce fear around technology and help seniors feel more included in daily digital interactions. Elephating Giants
Team Orthophants
Elephants may receive injuries (e.g. underarm skin lesions) during diagnosis and surgery as current harnesses can deeply undercut their skin during usage, causing abrasions which lead to elephant distress and potential infections. This impacts the mahouts, who live and work daily with the elephants, as well as the vets treating the elephants. As such, our team aims to design and produce a new harness system that is safe for elephant use, adaptable, and reproducible, so the mahouts and vets can continue with current practices with this crucial piece of equipment while minimising harm to elephants.Project Country: ThailandProject Supervisor: A/P Peter VailGroup Ref: 24CCPV02R
Tech for Mutual Aid
Pipe Cleaners
Our IEx project addresses two interconnected goals: enhancing operational capacity and amplifying advocacy efforts for Migrant Mutual Aid (MMA), a grassroots organisation supporting migrant workers in Singapore. Technically, we are developing a digital case management system to replace MMA’s current Google Drive-based workflow, which is fragmented, memory-reliant, and lacks secure data handling. Creatively, we aim to humanise the invisible labour behind their work by spotlighting stories of care, grief, and solidarity through accessible media. By bridging technical solutions with narrative advocacy, our project seeks to support MMA’s mission both behind the scenes and in the hearts of the wider public.Project Country: SingaporeProject Supervisor: Dr Mikhail FilippovGroup Ref: 24STMF03
Enhancing Climate Literacy and Resilience Among Commuters Through Behavioural Economics Interventions
Climate Betizens
Our project seeks to address low climate literacy among tertiary students in Singapore. We developed a digital prediction market platform focused on climate-related outcomes to encourage students to engage with real-time data to make predictions about climate and transport-related trends. Learning is incentivised through rewards. If the trial is successful, we intend to go forward with a full study. Additionally, we hope this will encourage participants to make informed decisions about climate-related outcomes since their understanding of climate change and its impact has deepened. If successful, this project could serve as a model for future similar initiatives.Project Country: SingaporeProject Supervisor: Dr Michelle LeeGroup Ref: 24STML01
Car-Lite for Life
Green Explorers
In our IEx project, we created a gamified story survey for primary and secondary students at the Singapore Mobility Gallery to explore their perceptions of car-lite lifestyles after their school visit. We first analysed past LTA survey data with Looker Studio, observed the students’ interactions at the gallery and conducted literature reviews. Drawing on these insights, we designed a storyboard and user journey in Figma, refined it with LTA’s feedback, and finally developed it as an interactive and gamified web-based survey. Through this, we aim to help LTA gain deeper insights to enhance future school outreach programmes promoting car-lite lifestyles.Project Country: SingaporeProject Supervisor: Dr Michelle LeeGroup Ref: 24STML02

The STEMers
Our IEx project focuses on developing an AI-powered journaling chatbot that nurtures self-awareness and self-reflection among our target audience - secondary-school students. Through research on journaling practices, integration of AI models, and user psychology, we aim to create a prototype that prompts introspection and summarizes reflections effectively. The project integrates frontend design, AI prompt engineering, and stakeholder collaboration with our partner Praxium. By combining secondary and primary research with iterative prototyping, the team seeks to understand how technology can enhance personal growth for these youths. IEx Rohingya Workplace Safety
We are helping Rohingya refugees in Malaysia who work without medical insurance and formal safety training. Our project aims to provide workplace safety education, reducing the injury rate of Rohingya workers, who are the breadwinners of families. Our learning take-aways focuses on building cross-culture empathy and communication, to build our capacity to understand and communicate with people of different mindsets and motivations – which might be cultivated by an "imaginable" experience like seeking refuge. Our project culminates in a series of safety training videos delivered with a Whatsapp chatbot. The way safety knowledge is communicated will be tailored to Rohingya workers.Project Country: MalaysiaProject Supervisor: Dr Tan Sok TengGroup Ref: 24CCST01R
