Sabah is a home to one of the world’s highest concentrations of bio-cultural diversity, yet, the state is increasingly concerned about a crisis of inequality and human rights. This IEx team will delve into a multi-faceted life of the indigenous stateless Bajau Laut community living in Semporna Sabah. We will explore the power of creativity through a wide spectrum of arts and design practices. We will innovate and build structures/systems to ease various livelihood challenges faced by the community, including lack of clean water, fire hazards and ocean pollution. We also have a keen interest in documenting traditional knowledge and preserving cultural heritage of the underrepresented Bajau Laut community.
