Developing nations are often confronted with tensions between the demands of urban development and the need to protect heritage interests. While Singapore may be fortunate to have strong state support in the management of urban planning and heritage conservation, communities in our neighbouring region face diverse challenges in protecting cultural and heritage asset resources.
Apart from museums, what are other platforms and spaces that creatively mediate between competing development interests?
How do we situate heritage around communities, and how do communities determine what is of heritage value?
What can we learn from heritage practices from communities from neighbouring regions, to inform our own methodologies?
