Reap What You Throw: Improving Chreav’s Waste Disposal Infrastructure
Reap What You Throw: Improving Chreav’s Waste Disposal Infrastructure
Dough Winners
As Siem Reap’s rapid development strains its municipal waste system, Chreav Primary and Secondary School face similar pressures. Insufficient bins, irregular clearance, and reliance on disposables cause overflowing and waterlogged waste, worsened by limited awareness among students. We propose a two-stage approach: logistics and waste reduction. To address overflowing waste, we will add bins and build shelters. To improve waste allocation and student engagement, students will design bin labels through a sign-painting workshop. For waste reduction, we will set up a bin for clean plastic bags to be collected by a plastic upcycling homestay, and produce educational comics. We will liaise with GAEA, the municipal waste management body, to ensure that proposed infrastructural changes complement existing operations. This will be coordinated through the school, with communication support from our Cambodian buddies, who will also help us inform relevant local authorities and educational or environmental departments.Dough Winners

Stimulating Coffee Growth in Pong Sayaen
Stimulating Coffee Growth in Pong Sayaen
The Beanies
Our group seeks to enhance understanding of coffee cultivation and culture in Pong Sayaen, with the long-term objective of promoting specialty-grade coffee and coffee-based products as alternative income sources. While coffee plants mature, we will make coffee beans viable through alternatives like coffee infused oil using the oil-press, powered by the 1.6kw solar system installed by the seniors. This aims to strengthen villagers’ confidence in market demand, facilitating a transition from corn to coffee. We will expand market engagement by establishing structured partnerships between roasters and the village, creating sustainable revenue streams and incentivizing long-term community participation. The Beanies

Play-it-Forward 2.1
Play-it-Forward 2.1
2play 2forward
Building up from an earlier project, Play-it-forward, Play-it-Forward 2.1 seeks to address the unequal distribution of toys in families with growing children by collecting and refurbishing toys and educational materials from families with older children to distribute to lower-income families with younger children who need these resources. This project aims to address two problems: firstly, the creation of waste due to a lack of redistribution of used toys, which are discarded as children age, and secondly, the shortage of educational materials, including toys and books, for lower-income families. These materials are crucial to the development of children. Thus, by collecting and redistributing toys, we reduce waste and enrich children's lives. Our main target demographic is children, 5-12 years old, from impoverished communities. We will partner with local churches to reach out to foster children whose quality of life are hindered by Singapore's high cost of living, and BookWermz, a nonprofit donating materials to remote schools in northern Philippines.2play 2forward

Ko Sichang Blue Crabs
Ko Sichang Blue Crabs
SAWADEECRAB
Ko Sichang’s rich coastal environment and creative ventures highlight its potential as a sustainable tourism destination. However, the island’s underdeveloped tourism infrastructure and lack of sustainable business practices hinder its ability to grow an eco-friendly tourism industry that benefits both community and environment. Our project will address this gap by supporting initiatives that link sustainable business practices with community-based tourism and environmental education. This approach builds on existing efforts to restore blue crab populations, working mainly with a cafe that makes blue crab ice cream from the waste of the blue crab farming industry on the island. Bogor Besties
Our project addresses the issue of improper waste management in Bogor, Indonesia, focusing on improving waste sorting and recycling habits among students and residents. In collaboration with students from IPB University, we aim to promote sustainable behaviour through two key initiatives: the Waste Sorting Initiative and Composting Workshops. The Waste Sorting Initiative combines the installation of clearly labelled bins (for recycling, organic, and inorganic waste) with a mobile app that scans, categorises, and rewards proper sorting through gamified features and vouchers. The Composting Workshops complement this by teaching participants how to convert food waste into compost, providing hands-on environmental education. We are also exploring collaboration with UN PAGE Indonesia’s Ngupahan app team to integrate or extend their existing platform. The project primarily benefits IPB students and the IPB-affiliated community, fostering long-term waste literacy and a culture of sustainability within Bogor.Bogor Besties

Reimagining Huay Pakkoot: Building Sustainable Futures through Eco-Tourism
Reimagining Huay Pakkoot: Building Sustainable Futures through Eco-Tourism
3AM Roamers
Our project aims to support the village of Huay Pakkoot in northern Thailand by helping the community develop a sustainable glamping site that strengthens its eco-tourism sector. Currently, the village’s economy relies heavily on corn farming and elephant tourism, which provide unsustainable and limited income. Our project seeks to diversify the village’s income sources through eco-tourism and create long-term economic resilience while promoting ethical tourism practices and elephant welfare. Our team will work closely with the Huay Pakkoot Elephant Foundation to further improve tourist infrastructure and develop immersive nature-based programmes. These efforts aim to benefit the local community by generating alternative sources of revenue for the villagers and supporting the ethical treatment of elephants. Ultimately, the project envisions an eco-tourism model that balances economic growth with environmental sustainability and elephant welfare.3AM Roamers

Luyahan’s Living Canvas: An Outdoor Gallery Path towards Environmental & Economic Sustainability
Luyahan’s Living Canvas: An Outdoor Gallery Path towards Environmental & Economic Sustainability
Tatak Puso
Our project addresses the ecological decline and economic vulnerability of Luyahan, a coastal barangay in Lian, Batangas. The community faces worsening marine pollution and unsustainable tourism practices, which threaten both local livelihoods and marine biodiversity. We collaborated with the Lian community, social entrepreneur Bryan McClelland (Bambryan), community resource mapping expert Architect Joy Onozawa, and Barangay Captain Alvin de los Reyes to co-create an outdoor art gallery along a high-traffic public pathway to the beach. Each artwork, designed with community members, will reflect their stories and aspirations. We hope to remind locals that caring for Luyahan’s coast safeguards their shared future, and Luyahan being kept clean protects the livelihoods depending on a healthy coastal ecosystem (local fisherfolk, youth and small business owners). By combining art, education and tourism, we seek to foster pride of place, strengthen stewardship and demonstrate that environmental conservation can coexist with economic growth.Tatak Puso

Our project addresses agricultural insecurity in Claveria, Misamis Oriental, where unequal land ownership, soil degradation, and lack of access to modern farming knowledge have left many residents food insecure. In collaboration with Father Lino Macatol and his Laudato Si initiative (a faith-driven communal development project promoting ecological stewardship) we aim to establish a sustainable agricultural centre that demonstrates low-cost, space-efficient farming technologies. The centre will feature bamboo-based hydroponic systems, designed to be easily replicable within household compounds, reducing reliance on large tracts of land. Beyond serving as a demonstration site, it will function as an educational hub, offering workshops that teach hydroponic construction, maintenance, and cultivation. Additional training modules will introduce bamboo cultivation and value-adding practices, empowering residents to adopt sustainable methods and generate alternative livelihoods. Through this initiative, we hope to promote local food security, ecological regeneration, and community-led innovation.Kaya Natin

Rooting for Change: Tackling Fertiliser Overuse in Vietnam
Rooting for Change: Tackling Fertiliser Overuse in Vietnam
Ăn Club
Our project aims to tackle the over-use of chemical fertilisers in Vietnam. We hope to engage with farms that currently rely on chemical fertilisation, but are open to adopting more sustainable and less wasteful practices. We intend to primarily partner with Can Tho University to scope out the direction of our project, such as to gain a deeper understanding of existing research and ground work in Vietnam. Our goal is to reduce chemical overfertilisation by promoting more sustainable and efficient nutrient management practices among farmers. Depending on farm readiness, we will likely pursue one of two pathways for this solution: (A) Wider incorporation of a low-cost, user-friendly device for testing soil nutrient levels. (B) Exploring potential natural fertilisers using locally available organics. Additionally, we aim to create resources to raise awareness of the impacts of chemical overfertilisation and foster understanding of our initiatives among farmers and consumers.Ăn Club

Closing the Food Loops Upstream
Closing the Food Loops Upstream
FoodLoops
Our group has decided to tackle the issue of food waste in Singapore, by salvaging and redistributing edible, yet discarded food from wholesalers. We plan to work with Fridge Restock Community (FRC), a community organisation that conducts frequent food rescue missions, to increase awareness about the problem of food waste to Secondary School students. This is done through two avenues: (1) a presentation to introduce the food waste situation in Singapore followed by distribution of the food collected from Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre, and (2) an opportunity for students to participate in a rescue mission as part of their Food & Consumer Education curriculum. We hope to show that reducing food waste is a continual effort that can be integrated from young in a way that creates lasting impact.FoodLoops

Enhancing Climate Literacy and Resilience Among Commuters Through Behavioural Economics Interventions
Enhancing Climate Literacy and Resilience Among Commuters Through Behavioural Economics Interventions
The Unpredictables
Low climate literacy among tertiary students in Singapore undermines sustainable commuting. Despite national policies promoting a car-lite society, misconceptions about transport emissions persist. These knowledge gaps limit students’ ability to critically evaluate commuting choice, weakening climate action and hindering long-term behavioural change. Our project builds directly upon the foundational work of the previous group (24STML01), who developed and piloted a behavioural economics-based digital prediction market platform aimed at enhancing environmental literacy among tertiary students. Their project gamifies climate knowledge through incentivised predictions on transport and climate outcomes, showing promise in early pilot results. The Unpredictables

Sea Turtle Conservation
Sea Turtle Conservation
Shell-utions
We propose to engage with local stakeholders dedicated to sea turtle conservation in Lombok, Indonesia, particularly those based in the Gili Matra Marine Reserve, where sea turtles are both ecological keystone species and vital tourism resources. This includes scientists and educators from Universitas Mataram (UNRAM) and eco-conscious diving operators like Ocean5 Dive Center, whose livelihoods and missions are closely tied to marine health.Sea turtles in Gili Matra face multiple threats, including boat strikes, tourism disturbances, nesting habitat loss, egg poaching, and degradation of feeding grounds. The Green turtle and Hawksbill turtle are classified by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List as Endangered and Critically Endangered, respectively, due to global population decline and demand for shell trade. Although some turtle data exist through previous initiatives, these records are partial and not publicly accessible, leaving significant knowledge gaps that hinder coordinated advocacy, local participation, and evidence-based protection.Shell-utions

TEAM BELUGA
Coral monitoring in Les village currently requires complex processes like photogrammetry, which requires technical knowledge. Additionally, the process is largely manual and tedious, in the long run potentially dampening willingness to drive coral restoration efforts. Hence, we aim to make coral monitoring more accessible to coastal communities. We do this by streamlining the coral data processing pipeline in Les Village, by designing an easy to use camera rig, automating coral measurement through machine learning, and creating an interactive dashboard. We hope to engage local fishermen who collect the data, while working alongside scientists from sea communities to improve the data collection process. In the long run, we hope to see a sustainable project where fishermen and divers are empowered to independently operate our coral identification systems.TEAM BELUGA

The Upcycling Classroom
The Upcycling Classroom
Siem Reap Upcycling
Our project seeks to address the growing issue of poor waste management at Chreav Primary and Secondary School in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The school faces challenges of overflowing bins, irregular waste collection, and limited awareness of sustainable practices like upcycling and recycling. To tackle this, we plan to involve elementary and secondary school pupils in an educational program that blends creative upcycling with environmental awareness education. Through the introduction of interactive workshops, illustrated educational booklets, and clearly labeled recycling bins, we aim to teach students the hands-on skills they need to turn plastic waste into useful products. Through teacher training and resource transfers, we will promote long-term behavioral change while ensuring cultural and age relevance in close collaboration with educators and the neighborhood organization Rehash Trash. Ultimately, our goals are to make the school cleaner, encourage sustainable practices among students, and enable students to be change agents in their communities.Siem Reap Upcycling
